How to Join the Church
Joining Our Church
Membership at Uvalde Baptist is open to anyone who (1) has placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins, (2) has been baptized by immersion by a body of believers of like faith and practice, and (3) who agrees with and abides by the Uvalde Baptist Church Covenant. (See below for further explanation.)
If you have not made either of these spiritual decisions, we will gladly answer your questions and journey through that process with you. At the end of a worship service, come forward or contact the church office during the week to talk with a pastor or elder.
Two Requirements for Membership
-
Saving Faith
Trusting in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of sins. This decision is the beginning but not the ending of what it means to follow Christ. -
Baptism by Immersion
We view baptism as being an outward, visible demonstration of an inward spiritual transformation which comes about when one trusts in Christ alone for salvation. Our position of baptism by immersion is based on the following:- The word baptize (baptizo) in Greek means to “dip” or “immerse” under water.
- Immersion best illustrates the believers identification with the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:1-11 and Colossians 2:12)
- The descriptions of baptism in the New Testament suggest that people were immersed.
(Matthew 3:6, John 3:23, Acts 8:38).
